Do you want to take advantage of Nifty 50 gains but are not willing to purchase the index itself? The process of trading a Nifty 50 Call Option can be a smart and affordable alternative to doing so.

In this blog, we are going to discuss one of the most popular Nifty 50 call option strategies that every trader, especially a newcomer, should be aware of.

No jargon, no confusion, just a simple guide to enabling you to trade with intelligence.

What is a Nifty 50 Call Option?

A call option on Nifty 50 gives you the right (but not the obligation) to purchase the index at a pre-determined price (strike price), on or prior to the expiry date.

There is a premium to purchase the option. When the market shifts in your favor, then you can make profits without having to invest a lot of money, like you would by buying the index or futures.

Why Trade Nifty 50 Call Options?

  • Less Capital Requirement: You do not require lakhs of rupees to trade the index.

  • Leverage: A little shift in Nifty will lead to a big return.

  • The Risk is Limited: Your ultimate loss cannot exceed the premium you pay.

  • Quick Profits: Suitable for short-term market play.

Strategy: Buying a Nifty 50 Call Option (Bullish View)

The easiest and probably one of the best investment strategies is when you purchase a Nifty 50 call option, and you are of the view that the market will go up.

It is also referred to as a Long Call Strategy.

How It Works

  • Select a strike price close to or slightly higher than the current Nifty 50.

  • Choose either weekly or monthly expiry, as per your opinion.

  • Pay a premium for a call option.

  • In case of Nifty increases over the strike price + premium before expiry, you gain a profit

Real-Life Example:

  • The Nifty 50 is currently trading at 22,000.

  • You purchase a Nifty 50 Call with an exercise price of 22,100, and one week to expiry.

  • Premium Paid = 80/lot (1 lot = 50 units).

  • The amount you have invested = 80 x 50 = 4,000.

In case Nifty reaches 22,300:

  • Intrinsic Value = 22,300 - 22,100 =Rs200.

  • Profit = 200 80 = 120 Re 1 per unit.

  • The total profit = 120(50) = 6,000.

In case Nifty remains below 22,100:

  • The option expires out of money

  • Your potential loss = 4,000 (premium paid).

When to Use This Strategy?

Apply this strategy when:

  • Your market view is bullish.

  • Nifty 50 is exhibiting breakout signs on technical charts.

  • There is favorable news (e.g., budget, RBI statement).

  • Global signals are pronounced and favor the uptrend in the market.

Key Factors to Consider Before Entering

  • Strike Price Selection: Select a strike that balances the cost and chance. Slightly out-of-the-money (OTM) or at-the-money (ATM) calls are the best to start with.

  • Time Until Expiry: As time decreases to expiry, options depreciate (time decay). Ensure the move is carried out early to earn greater profits.

  • Volatility: Increasingly higher implied volatility (IV) increases the premium. Avoid purchasing options in a highly volatile market, with high IV, where premiums are exaggerated.

  • Stop loss and target: Set specific levels. Do not wait until expiry when the trade is incorrect. A slight loss would be better than losing all the premiums.

Bonus Tip: Use Technical Indicators

To maximize the chances of a successful trade in your Nifty 50 call option, you can employ straightforward technical indicators such as:

  • Moving Averages (MA) – Look for crossover signals of the Moving Averages (MA)

  • Relative Strength Index (RSI) - An RSI reading below 40 that is in an uptrend can represent bullish momentum

  • Support and Resistance – Find breakout levels

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Purchasing calls in a flat or declining market

  • Selecting OTM options with almost no probability of profit

  • Neglecting time decay, particularly when it includes weekly expiries

  • Failing to manage your position (avoid hope trading)

Advanced Traders: Try a Bull Call Spread

You can also opt for a Bull Call Spread, in case you are comfortable with options:

  • Buy one call option (e.g. 22,000 strike)

  • Sell another higher strike call (e.g. 22,200)

This lowers the price you pay but limits your gain. It is a clever way to reduce price and to minimize risk.

Final Thoughts

One of the best strategies to make profitable moves during bullish action in the Indian stock market is the Nifty 50 Call Option Strategy. It is user-friendly, affordable, and straightforward. However, it is equally essential that it needs to be planned, practiced with discipline, and have risk control.

Always remember:

  • Choose the online trading best platform

  • Trade with a view, not a guess.

  • Be a good capital manager

  • Use technical indicators and market news.

With time and patience, Nifty 50 call options can be a great part of your trading experience.
